COVID has been a real nightmare, but as Australia emerges with 70% of the population being vaccinated now, we’re allowed to get to work on planning our family trips again.
While Tasmania has been quite lucky in case numbers, states such as Victoria and NSW haven’t been able to travel there – so I thought I would write up a post about one of my favourite past activities from my last trip.
River Rafting on the Derwent River!
This family-friendly trip is not for hardcore adrenaline junkies – hence why I loved it so much! Raft the upper reaches of Hobart’s beautiful Derwent River, which winds through the tranquil Derwent Valley. There are interesting views of hop fields and oast houses. Lucky rafters might even spot a platypus!
Situated just one hour north of the Hobart CBD, this is an ideal day trip.
The rapids are grade 1 to 2, so this 9km rafting expedition is perfect for families. Learn to steer your raft or just sit back and relax!
Water is released by the Hydro-Electric Commission, giving us the most reliable water release in Tasmania.
You will meet at a pre-arranged location. Allow half to a full day for this rafting adventure.
Please ensure you have bathers or bike shorts, a towel, old runners for inside the raft, woollen jumper or thermals if you have them, old shorts to wear over the wetsuit, bag for wet gear; retaining strap for glasses, lunch, snacks, and water.
